    Question Best CD-ROM drive

What is the best CD-ROM drive to use? I've been using a Creative CD-ROM for the past 6 years and have had nothing put trouble with them. I use generic brand CD-ROMs, but they seem to go out every 5-6 months. What would somebody recommend as far as a good reliable CD-ROM I can put into my system? Thanks for any input.

Creative CDROM's are pants - although i have one myself which has given me very little trouble, most of the rest i've seen have been terrible. Delta aren't too bad for a cheap CDROM, although they do make an annoying noise when they spin up which sounds like the cd is gonna come flying out the front. Plextor are good, if you can afford them and ditto with the Kenwood True-X drives. Both Samsung and Teac also seem to be quite good and are reasonably priced.

Toshiba, Plextor & CTX all supply good CD-ROM drives. Used to use CTX in majority of builds and don't remember having any returned.

Plextor and Yamaha with a little LG thrown in when the budget is tight.

I have to agree with the crowd in saying that the Creative CDROMs we've so9ld have been junk - very noisy and a tendency to die on you.

I've had good luck with Asus and LG and have been told by pretty much everybody that Plextor is the best.

I love my Kenwood 72X drive. It's the fastest CD-ROM I've ever used, and yet it's absolutely quiet. It uses multiple laser beams to read several tracks simultaneously, which means the disc can spin much, much slower, which means it's alot quieter.
