Novell 4.11 user add problem

Our 4.11 server will not let us add users anymore. When we add a user, it appears to work fine, but when we close out the administator and come back in, it changes the username to a number like 1_3. We can log in with that number and the password we set, but it always renames every account we added. It also renamed several existing accounts to numbers. We have used DSREPAIR, but that didnt help. Any ideas. Thanks.

How many servers are in your tree? How many servers have replicas of the partition? If you have only one server and one replica, then it may help if you run DSREPAIR at the server using the -a switch (which gives you more administrative options than DSREPAIR without). Also, you can check your partition continuity by using NDS Manager from a Win32 workstation. I've seen this happen on servers running Cheyenne or Computer Associate's FAXserve, but that was only in multi-server environments where the partition replicas were not completely synchronized. From NDS Manager, you can force the Master replica server to send updates to the Read/Write and Read Only replica servers. That may help.
