Arrow Restoring files with Windows ME

    Hi Everyone,

I have a very annoying delema. I upgraded from windows 98se to windows ME and have finally got ME setup to do what I need. The only problem that remains is that I saved my files to CD-R using MSBACKUP (the windows 98 backup utility) and it seems that there is no utility in ME that will let me open these .qic files so that I can restore them. Any suggestions? Am I overlooking something obvious here? (Also, if I go to the Windows Setup in add/remove programs there is no option to add backup so I'm pretty sure it's not on my install CD).

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions!

    Thumbs up

    Hi disturbance
If all you want to do is a restore of a backup, use the backup utility inside the accesories folder. Not too sure about your .qik files, the norm is .bfk. try and see.

    Best of luck.

That's my problem. There is no backup utility in any of the start menu folders (searched them all over, and over) and I can't add it from the ME CD.

Ummm, your scr#wed, is your WinME a full copy? Or here is a thought can you copy accross the backup utility from the Win98se disk? I don't know if you can but it might be worth a try.
Did you do a full install of ME or a custom job?
I'll do a bit more snooping for you.
Good luck in the mean time.

Tried the copy from 98se, no luck. I did do a custom install, but I should still be able to add any uninstalled components from the Windows Setup in Add/Remove Programs.

Thanks for your help so far Yoshie.

Well, I was able to solve my own problem. It turns out that there is a copy of msbackup on my ME cd in \addons\msbackup directory. I was able to double click on MSBEXP.EXE to install the seagate backup utility and restore my .qic files.

Thought I'd post the solution incase anyone else is interested. Thanks again for your assistance Yoshie.
