memory on P4 motherboard

right now i have 2 sticks of 128MB on my P4 motherboard. there are 2 open memory slots. can i fill those with 2 sticks of 256MB for a total of 768MB ram?

It depends on what motherboard you have and whether the sticks of RAM are single or double sided.

It's dependant on the type of memory you have. Most if not all P-4 boards will use either pc-133 or DDR2100 or better ram, so unless the memory is new or fairly new and marked accordingly it won't work. You can try it and see if it boots withour errors and runs without errors leave it in, but if it boots and gives a series of random errors, yank it back out and I wouldn't try installing the ram until your in a situation where if you start getting errors, you won't loose a report at midnight on Sunday night when it's due at 8AM on Monday and you've already worked on it for 3 hours

A large majority of P4 boards use RDRAM which must be paired, and the board may be *Very* particular about what can go into it
get name, brand of computer, if it's a big brand, or name, model of mainboard, and go mfgr's site to see what memory configs are supported
