hmmm - I didn't know that could break....
I finally got the time to upgrade my home box to W2K Pro last night. Everything went fine through the set up (I blanked and formatted a partition for it - NTFS) and it ran like the champ it is. Pulled SP1, security updates, etc. with no problems.
Then I just had to start installing software.
I was running 98SE, so most of the proggies I wanted to re-install were really for it. Everything went fine, again, until I got to PCAnywhere. Yeah, I know, but I use it to avoid coming back to the office after hours.
PCA actually installed fine, then on reboot, I notice the graphics on the login block were screwed. They looked like a web page does when you don't have the correct character set installed. Just gibberish.
Then it says winlogon has generated an error and will be terminated. Uh, oh.
Then it blue screens with a critical stop of "Winlogon.exe terminated unexpectedly. System halted."
So how do I fix that? I will just reformat and reinstall tonight if need be, but I'd rather fix it. Any ideas? And I mean ANY.
Thanks
Edit: Oh, yeah, neither safe mode or last known good have any effect on the situation. It just boots up until it gets to the login block and crashes. The neat thing is, since auto-reboot is turned on, it is stuck in a loop, and will just reboot, crash, reboot, crash until I power off. And, of course, I haven't made any form of rescue or ERD disk yet.

What I'm about to say only goes with PCanywhere 9.0 - after you install it with a 2k/ME you MUST RUN THE UPDATE. There's a few things that need to be modified for the 2k/me to work, and that'll only work if you run live update
you can run the 2k console and delete a few of the files (dlls or exes) in the pc anywhere folder or do it though safe mode (dont know if safemode will work or not)it'll error it out and see if that helps, if not...heh, reinstall

check symantec.com for an update to fix the w2k compatablity problem. you will have to start the system up in safe mode to run the patch. if you install PCA on any other systems be sure to run the live update before re-booting and it will download and install the patch for you.
