what is RDRAM?

I am not sure where to post this. I'm working on a comp for my boss and I noticed that it's got this RDRAM stick in it. I've never seen this type of memory is it any good??

LOL your not kidding. I just happened to go back to the windrivers homepage and there it was on the pricewatch list. almost $1 a meg.

RAMBUS memory is server/workstation memory that has advanced error checking on the chip - it is being superceeded by DDRRam - which supports fast error checking, is less expensive, as fast or faster and almost as accurate on error checking (absolutly minute difference in errors caught between the two different types of ram.)

Ask someone at Intel what RDRAM is. You'll either get a bunch of propaganda, or if you get someone who still has their soul, they'll say "The biggest mistake we've ever made."

Very seriously doubt it as DDR was designed for use with AMD CPUs with the 200 and 266 FSB. If Intel does change their memory requirements it will most likely be a completely new type.

from what i hear either q4 of this year or q1 of next, they will use QDR ram(since they already run a quad pumped bus
