Post best video card for gameing??

I'm looking for a new video card to put in my T-Bird 1Ghz, 512 MB RAM. My friend says to get a Voodoo 5500, just wondering if you guys had any suggestions. I am willing to pay up to $300.

    Thanks for your input.

    Cool

my advice if you want it would be to invest in a geforce2 based card or in a radeon based card.. dont get a voodoo.. the drivers for the two card i mentioned are going to be continuously updated, the geforce in the the detonator series i know for sure, but i am not up to speck on what ati is doing with its top of the line chipset at the moment.

I think that the GeForce 2 GTS is your best option. Check out www.tomshardware.com for reliable articles on whats hot and whats not.

I forgot to say I wouldn't go for a 3dfx card either NVidia have bought them and they're not likely to continue recieving support.

The Voodoo is a good card, if you have the money, why not. I myself have the ATI Rage Fury Pro 32MB, with TV-Out and S-Video, it works fine. The card that I have been looking at though is the Geforce2 MX 64MB. The price is around $140 and the card is great. So that's what I would get.

    Thumbs up

As much as i like Nvidia's Chipsets
ATI were always my favorite cards... they are the most reliable cost/performance

Definetly don't get the Voodoo card. As was stated earlier here, 3dfx is no longer in existence. They were bought out by nVidia. That card will no longer be supported and you will no be able to get driver updates for it either. Also, that card is far insuperior to nVidia's latest offerings. I would go for a Geforce2 GTS or Ultra for the best perfomance at a reasonable cost. I have had nothing but bad experiences with ATI's Radeon, so I wouldn't recommend it either, besides nVidia is the performance leader at this point anyway.

ATI also has great TV-in/out DVD playback - keep that in mind.

I bought the voodoo5 5500 and I havent had any problems out of it at all and www.pricewatch.com has them for around $115 so I think that it is a very good card for the money
