External HDD on Win2000.....
OK... I'm new to Windows 2000 (just loaded it on my laptop), and I have an old external HDD that I want to backup some information to. The external HDD connects through a centronics connector (back of external HDD) to a parallel connector, which connects to the back of my laptop. How do I get the PC to recognize the external HDD? I got it to work on my Win98 minitower box, but I honestly don't remember what I did to get it to recognize. All I know is that I didn't need drivers for it. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I do not believe that what you are asking is possible without a driver?

After doing my research, I finally remembered that I did use a driver. This driver was for the centronics cable, which I believe is a SCSI I cable, and it has an adaptec driver (I had to dig around on my Win98 to see what the heck was making this thing work). I have found an adaptec driver, but the only one I could find was for a SCSI I SCSI card. I'm not certain if this will work, but I guess I can give it a shot. It this doesn't work, I guess I'll have to get an external CD-R. The data I need to back up needs to come from this PC to an older IBM PS/2 (the "micro-channel," non-upgradeable piece of $&#@ )!!!! Unfortunately, there is no other way to move the data to the PC.

What model is the drive enclosure you are using? Is it a Backpack drive or just a scsi hard drive in a generic external case?
If it is a specific manufacturer you should be able to search the driver database for windows 2000 drivers for your enclosure.

The case that I am using is just a generic case. I've even tried opening it to see if I could find the vendor name. The HDD on the inside is an IDE 3.5GB Seagate.
I've tried using the drivers, that I previously mentioned, for the SCSI I card, but it didn't work. I guess I'll just have to keep fooling around with it to see what I can figure out.
Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help!! I have been doing a lot of searching (for drivers, advice, etc.) trying to find a way to get this thing to work, but I've come up short!
I'm certain there has to be a SCSI I to Parallel driver out there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it!
Thanks again for the help!
