Device Not Ready
Hi,
I am installing an HP 9150i cd writer on a Dell Dimenstion xp5 D233 running Windows 95B.
First I installed it with the regular Rom on the Secondary controller. (Regular Rom was originally on Secondary-jumper set to Master). I put the Writer on the second and set to Slave.
Computer boots up and notices both ROMS (F & G respectively, c,d,e are my partitions). However when I goto access any cd on the new writer I get a Device Not Ready Error. I mean Any cd such as one that will run fine on the original ROM. When I start the Adaptec software for formatting a CD I get Device Not REady. I can right click on this burner choose Eject and the CD will indeed eject. I changed the Cables just incase the one I was using was bad. Still the same.
Device is listed in Device manager. Also to note when the computer boots up the drives are recognized.
ON a whim I used the CD writer to replace the original CD device and just removed the CD device(yes when doing this I set the writer jumper to Master and placed on the same connection as the original CD). Once again the writer is listed as a drive letter but once again I get DEVICE not Ready when trying to access by Explore. And of course CD will eject from writer.
Any ideas on what is going on? Suggestions would be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dani

You will probably want to check out HP's website for <a href="http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpcdwriter22591_swen.html" target="_blank">your CD-Writer</a>. Follow the link for Win95...HP has a new recording software to replace MyCD.
Also, notice the links there for FAQ's, Setup & Installation, etc.
Also, read up on <a href="http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/get_doc.pl?SNI=hpcdwriter22591&LC=information_stor age&Tfile=lpg40238" target="_blank">HP CD-Writer Plus Drives - Hardware Installation Instructions for an Internal IDE CD-Writer</a>. Lots of good info there...
Good Luck!

Hi Don,
Thanks for your reply. I viewed HPs instructions before posting here (sorry perhaps I shouldve mentioned this but checking another companies web site for documentation is second nature for me), and followed them.
I also installed the latest software for the product. The problem still exists though.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks again for the response,
Dani
