Question Nero. The Win-Aspi file can't be found (Solved)

    Hi

I have a problem with Nero - Burning rom.
When I start the program I get this error message:
The Win-ASPI file "?.?" can't be found, therefore you can currently only select image recorder
This file is a part of the Windows /95/98/ME-files. Please fix these problems and restart nero.
    (Error 12: Init failed)

    I have Win Me and a Teac-recorder.
    Anyone know what to do?

You need to get the aspi files from adaptec
    www.adaptec.com

    hi i hope this helps.

when u try to download the aspi file from adaptec (from my own useige) it will tell u that u do not have an adaptec card , ie bog off ....and get it from somebode else!

that is what has happened to me in the past.

i got around this problem curtisy of a posting by:

1: load an adaptec scsi card to your system , a non PNP one.
    2: reboot system
3: download and run the adaptec file.
4: the file will load , but tell u that your card is loaded wrong.
5: delete the scsi card in device manager
    6: reboot the machine.

you will then have a working aspi layer.

hope this helps , any other suggestions from other techs on this subject , i will not be offended.

    good luck

Hp Vectra Ve 166mmx series 3. This machine has a problem with cdroms, even with new bios.It has a phoenix bios that detects cdroms and when it boots, during post it displays a message "cdrom error - 0401-AE"
this error means that the drive is not responding.I believe its something with the bios or the controller.I've checked the cables and tried different drives

    Any suggestions are welcome.

Hmmm...you said that you tried different cables right??
I'd first look into putting a drive on that particular IDE control to see if it gets detected...if not, try looking into your bios and see if the configuration is correct, and most importantly check into the settings you have on the drive..make sure you have the the Slave/Master relationship set correctly..

sorry QDOC i dont think that the reply i posted above u in regard to CHRIZONs problem has anything in common with your problem.

I am not a moderator , but may i suggest that u delete your post and post it as a new post , maybe with the topic "cdrom error - 0401-AE" , as i think that more people are likly to have spotted that perticular problem and have solved it would home in on the subject question

please do not take offence , i am only trying to help u

    best of luck

Go to http://www.nero.com/en/download.htm and download the NEASPIxx.EXE file for your desired language. This is the current Nero/ASPI driver. Comes with install intructions.

Let us know how you make out.

I also found you a link to download the entire proper ASPI layer to a windows system. It comes with an install so its easy as 1.2.3...

Its not the Adaptec version, but this one is free, and Adaptec sucks anyway, they can go jump in the ocean! <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0">
