[RESOLVED] 127MB?

Does anyone know why a motherboard would report 127 MB from a 128 MB dimm? I already swapped the dimm and the other one says the same. I also moved it to a different slot, but that didn't work either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does your motherboard have on-board video? If so, is it sharing video RAM from the system RAM? I've seen this in the past, but it's been a while since this situation has cropped up. Most motherboard manufacturers got smart and started putting video RAM on the motherboard instead of letting the video steal RAM from the system.
If your video takes its RAM from the system RAM, you can set the amount it uses in the CMOS settings. 1MB is usually the minimum.

In your bios, do you have an option for memory hole? or something like that...

If so you can change it and it should then show 128.

I just put together a machine with a Intel CA810E mbd and it has onboard video, on Intel's website they have a post about the bios using system ram, by the way the board is pretty slick, has onboard video,sound, and a 10/100 nic, nice setup, the cd with all
the drivers worked perfect, no blue screens nothing fighting with each other, wondering if anyone else has used this board and there results ?

Thanks for your input everyone. It is greatly appreciated. It does have onboard video and since I'm not a big fan of integrated sound/video, I haven't set any of these up yet. When I saw it I thought it quite strange.

The CA810AL is so sweet. I built two machines for some old people. All this drivers are on one disk. Installing everything is as simple as putting in the disk, pressing select all, and drinking a cup of coffee.

I have seen a few spooky things like that, I had a Gateway 2000 come in and I called the Tech guys to figure it out. They said that it was used for integrated devices.

Just a note to anyone who's interested. I have also seen this same thing happen when running certain TSR combo's. It was awhile ago and I don't remember which ones exactly but I believe at least one was a Virus scan. For some reason it reported the wrong amount of RAM to windows. I also Believe it was on a WIN98 machine, not sure if it was SE or not. Just thought you all might be interested.
