    Post Disk Copy Question

If I ghost a 20 gig hd to a 15gig will that be ok.

Also the 20 gig drive has a d drive that is the restore partition will it ghost over with the proceedure?

So the two questions are will the ghost from 20 to 15 go ok ? And will the D drive on the 20 gig come across with the c drive as well?

    Thanks Everyone

As far as I know, it's not the size of the HD, but the amount of data. It should be OK as long as you've not filled up the 20. Also, you have the choice of ghosting a disk or partition.

I've been using ghost 5.1 until yesterday and it would not let me ghost from a larger drive to a smaller one. I finally got 6.5 but havent tried this yet. But like MR_Miner said you do have the option to copy the partition or the whole drive.

If you do a "Disk from image" it will destroy your "D:" partition. If you do a "Partition from image" your "D:" partition will still be intact, provided your "C:" partition was large enough for the image. In short, only do a "Disk from image" if you are prepared to lose all data that currently exists on the drive.

I have little experience with ghost, but I do know you can shrink the partition with Partition Magic and then you image/ghost it

What i always do when i install a system is to make a first partition of fat16 (2GB).
Install all stuff into it and then Ghost it...

    I agree 100% !!!

    When I work with Images I use only a primary Partition either 2GB FAT16 (win95) 4GB FAT32 (win98 and win2k) or 4GB FAT16 (Winnt4)

and than in NT4 and Win2k I convert to NTFS after everything's installed.

one more thing I found really useful
    1. I work with PC-DOS 7 for Ghost
    2. I wipe the HDD clean with: aefdisk /delall /mbr before any new Image.
