    Post DIRECT X UNINSTALL

    I'm going nuts.
I know there's a site out there that has a cute little application that removes all traces of Direct X, but can't seem to find it. I have 8 installed, and am experiencing problems with sound. Just want to try 7 instead, but can't find this little proggy.

Anyone know where I can find it ....

    pretty please.....

    Question

Lemme know if you find this utility, but completely removing DX is a bad call (rolling it back is sometimes a necessity, when running older games, but completely removing it causes issues)

I'll grant you this, though . . . trying to manually recover from installing an updated build is like trying to get pee out of a swimming pool.

    Good luck, man.

If you're running W2K, I beleive an uninstaller file named "undx8w2k.exe" can be found in the System32 folder somewhere.

There's a bunch of different "DirectX uninstaller" programs out there...pick one:

As Clint Eastwood said in Dirty Harry, "Do you feel lucky today, punk? Well, do ya!?!" Good luck...

Oftentimes if you re-install the factory drivers for your sound & video, they will overwrite some of the DX8 files. If this doesn't help, you can then run the DXSETUP from DX7 to let it re-certify the files. Somtimes this will not work as it will see the DX8 files and say it can't do anything about them.

    Good luck.
