System Management Bus
I have never had this problem before but I am now experiencing it and searching the newsgroups I see many others with this problem but no solutions anywhere.
After installing the inf updates for the Intel chipset either off the motherboard CD or the latest one from the net It finds all devices except the SMB.Everywhere I point it fails and I was wondering where the hell this driver is.
I saw this problem yesterday with an Asus 850 chipset and I am personally experiencing it on a SuperMicro board with 815 chipset.
I have a customer experiencing it on an Intel 810E and I suggested downloading the latest inf because I know that file installs support for the SMB.
Thanks in advance

I believe I finally found my answer and when I get home tonight I am going to test it.
If it is successful I wil post the results here, the funny thing is lots of people are having this problem and everyone has fixed it at one time or another but no one remembers HOW they did it..hehehehe

Well I will give you a little credit at least ghost type person,at least you responded.I saw that same response all over the web which is a weak one in my opinion.
I stated in my first message that Installed the inf update from the cdrom AND I downloaded the newest inf update for the chipset.
---------------------------------------------
Here is what I was doing wrong for future reference.
Once the SMBus came up and looked for a driver I let it search for it then I would either cancel or after going through the routine I would go to device manager and delet the entry BAD IDEA.
If you go through it and let it not find the driver and go all the way through so it leaves the SMBus as an "Other Device" with the exclamation point (AND NOT REMOVING THE ENTRY) Then run the inf update and it will find the new devices and install support for SMbus.
I hope this keeps other people from wasting hours on the web looking for an answer that is never fully there,The only answers you get are "download the latest inf from the web" or "I had that problem once and fixed it but I forgot how I did it"
