    Question ATI AIW 16meg

I am having trouble with the machine locking up all the time.
I have installed the the latest drivers from ATI. I have also downloaded the latest AGP port drivers from VIA. The system is as follows:
    Megastar AI5VG+ revision1
    256 megs pc100
    AMD K6-2 500
    Promise card
    WD 20.5
    Aopen modem
    SB 16 sound card

Has anyone had a similar problem? Is it possible that the card is not comaptible with the VIA chipset? Any Ideas? Everything is new except the motherboard.

    Thanks in advance!

I've had some bad AMD CPUs that would pass all testing, but system would have lockups like you say. Do you have another cpu you could install and see if the problems go away??

Second thought - check & see if you have a jumper to set the ram timing to the cpu or AGP bus?? PC100 should be set to the CPU 100 bus.

Yours is a difficult problem to locate
    Good Luck

I bought a Creative GeForce Pro and I had to tweak the bios to get it to run without locking. Is it possible I need to do this with the ATI? If so, what should I be looking for?

You have three items in the cmos that may apply.
1st) Check video shadow, try both on and off
    and see if and difference.
2nd) Check video bios cache, same try both
3rd) Check to see if bios has a place to assign an irq to video, try both.

One of these might make the difference!

Well, no go. I tried many different combinations. I reloaded drivers and upgraded DX drivers. I think I got the video to keep from locking up. (not my computer but I will hear if I didn't) I still cannot capture. Lock up city. I used the ATI capture and VideoWave III. I am still open to suggestions if anyone has one.
