need a scsi card for scanner

got a customer whose pc took a lightning hit, killed just about everything in his system. I replaced all the dead parts but I don't know where to get a new controller card for his scsi scanner. Has anyone tried a generic scsi card with one of these? This one is a umax 610s, the number on the card is 970160. umax is less than helpful, and I couldn't find the original card from my sources. Hopefully you can point me in the right direction. I know scanners are wicked cheap right, but the customer likes this one

is yours 50 pin or 68 pin ,,,as its an external connector u can use a non bootable scsi card ,,,,mainly used for "older" (using that word loosly) cd-roms ,,with a external connector ,,,,have 3 here 2 advansys ,,,1x bootable 1x non bootable with internal connectors but they are both 68 pin external ,,,also a "domax" (can,t find it but i,m sure thats correct name) 50 pin ext no internal ,,,,ideal for scanner.

be careful it could cost u more for a card AND a new 68pin lead than a USB scanner

It is a 25 pin, I know that sounds wrong but that is what it is. I called their number and left a couple of messages, but haven't heard from them.

Go here to check out the <a href="http://www.umax.com/support/knowledge/specifications.jsp?model=Astra+610S" target="_blank">specs for your scanner</a>. It lists hardware interface as SCSI 2.
I performed a Google Search for "scsi 970160" and came up with:

It says it is a 25 pin connector.

EDIT: I just saw your post about the Google Search...

Another thing to check is your terminators. If you took a lightning hit, it could have taken out anything. And, terminators are cheaper than SCSI cards.

Yeah , I got that far but I can't seem to get through to this supplier. The phone number has a answering machine, left my number a couple of times. they never got back to me.

Click on IO/Controllers...Wide or Ultra...they each list devices that are SCSI 2 capable. Of course, none of them look like they have the 25 pin connector, you might have to get another cable to hook your scanner up to it.

Adaptec AHA 2940, works great with my UMAX Astra 600S on a WinXP Pro machine.

I used an Adaptec 2903 SCSI card for the same scanner. I needed a pci card versus the isa card that came bundled with the scanner. You can find them on pricewatch.

Great, the aha2940 will work. that is just what I needed to know. Did you need an adaptor, from what I saw on the website it looked like it had a 50 pin output?

Nope, I didnt need an adapter, my scanner plugged right in, I had to get this card, because WinXP wouldnt support the original ISA card that comes with these scanners, but it works great with this Adaptec card. (Only thing I hate is, umax isnt making any software for this model and XP so you have to use Paint by default, but you can use whatever program you wish, just like any other scanner, thats what I do)

On another note, I have the original ISA card around here somewhere, if you would rather have one of the UMAX originals, let me know. otherwise I recommend ebay for the Adaptec, there not really to cheap i dont think.
