No Sound Even with another sound card
SB 16PCI
Win 98
PR166+
32MB SIMMs
Tried another:
soundcard (same model)
driver (fresh one off the net)
PCI slot
Win 98 Reload
Still no go. One time it prompted me and said that the minimum requirements for SB16 is Pentium 133 with 16mb RAM. I am running a PR166+.... is there a problem there you think? any work around for this crapola?
Thanks!

speakers plugged in, turned on, and in the right hole?
volume turned up? on the speakers too...
try different slot, win98 should have the drivers by default....
make sure there is no IRQ/mem addr conflict

Isn't that PR166+ a Cyrix processor with an actual clock of something less like 120 that claims to have special engineering that made it "run" like an Intel P166? I never sold any of these and only had to work on a couple. But it sounds like you have a compatibility problem with the CPU.

Are the speakers amplified? If not then try amplified speakers. Also is the volume control in windows muted?

I tried a Pentium 233 processor in there and the sound came back. I have a funny feeling that it is a processor incompatibility issue. Meantime, anyother ideas?
If one of you guys have a similar problem, try changing processor and see if that helps...

Hey pm43, If you've got Cyrix problems, you can go to the Cyrix forum and post something for weck(the one with the little sheep icon). He's the Cyrix man.

Definitely a Cyrix problem ..had this last week, customer asked me to fit an SB128 PCI on his comp ..got there and found it was a Cyrix 166. The SB software refused to install. The old AWE64 had a similar problem using software wavetable on Cyrix chips too ...the floating point just can't hack it !

YOU TRIED TWO SUPPOSED COMPATIBLE CARDS SO I WOULD SAY IT IS EITHER A PCI SLOT, OR THE SOFTWARE/DRIVERS.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Customer couldn't talk?
