 modem thinks it a video card
I have beem given an old pentium 233 to fix up for a guy. we did a clean install of 98 the thing works great except the modem thinks its a video card WTF i hear you say but pull the card and put another modem in it detects it straight away put the old one back in it finds an early PCI video adapter!!!! its a rockwell 56k v.90 flex perfectly normal modem havent tried it in another system yet but i will my question is how and why does it think its a video card curiosity only as the customer bought a $10 new modem

Perhaps a corrupt inf file for that modem???

 mmmm i thought that but it did it even after a clean install and after removing the driver from the device manager.....!!

k. Many modems are 'flashable.' Try checking with the manufacturer, it could have a corrupt eprom on the board and a flash, even if not an update might straighten things back out.
