If they are identical, take the drive out of the problem machine and slam it into a good machine...see how it connects. If it is still slow, I'd say format & reload...if it is not slow, start swapping hardware....I'd start with RAM 1st.

I ran microscope 2000 on the system with no error reports. It" probably the OS as usual.

if the OS works fine in 8 other identical machines, what makes you think it's the OS?
did you get any errors on OS load?
I'd suspect hardware.

If after running Microscope on the system, and not finding any problems, I too would suspect the OS.
Why suspect the OS? Because it's a Microsoft product. MS products do some REALLY strange things sometimes...

Worth a try. If that doesn't work, it's getting 2000 pro to see if that works. Really starting to piss me off!

Runs good under 2000 pro. Still have no clue to original problem.

Check your RAM, swap it with known good RAM. Worth a try.

Outlook Express 5.5 sucks. Uninstall it (but leave IE 5.5) then reload it from IE 5.0

MegaMod
I use O.E. 5.5 to check all of my email accounts without any problems at all...I would suspect something else.
