Case cover reboots system

Anyone ever have this problem?? I have a system that works perfectly with the case side panel off, but as soon as you install the side panel the system reboots and then acts erratic. I immediately assumed it was a poorly grounded board, but after a thorough examination I can find no grounding problems. No loose screws, nothing abnormal. The system consist of:
Asus VM99 mobo w/ onboard vid and sound
AMD K6-2 processor
64 mg PC 100 Ram
Maxtor 10.2 gig drive
50X Afreey CD
Mitsumi Floppy
DSI PCI Modem with Creative chipset
all mounted in a Super Case ATX format

Check the lips on the side panel, I've come across cases where the side panel is loose and causing problems on a case that is directly grounded thru the power supply.

I've had something simular
Built a computer and everything was fine, put the cover on the case, delivered the computer, turned it on and nothing happened.
Removed the cover, turned it on again and it booted up. Could not find any premature ground anywhere.
Faulty Case, Go Figure.

I have also encountered that problem before. Believe it or not I changed some of the screws in the case and everything was fine!!!!! It was however in the "old" days of AT cases and the screws I changed were the ones holding the carriage for the motherboard in the case. Go figure! Good luck. I also had one that the power supply was grounding out somehow, ( I replaced the Power supply and it worked fine ) !! Let us know if you figure it out. Maybe we need a forum for Bizarre fixes for wierd problems!

At least I know I'm not the only one. I thought I was drinking too much!!! LOL I got sidetracked due to some emergency work but I'm hoping to get back to this one soon. I"m gonna tear the board out, check all the screws and connections, and stick it back together. If it still does the same thing I"m gonna change out the power supply. It only makes sense that if its not a grounding problem it has to be power related.

Maybe we should have a section for weird problems.....hehe

I had that happen before. Turned out a speaker wire got pinched in the little tabs and had a small cut in it.

Got it!!! It was the power supply. Like I said earlier, everything else looked great so I swapped the power supply and all is working great. Thanks for the input guys.
