Exchange 5.0 domain switching
I want to move my Exchange server 5.0 on NT4 Sp6 to a new domain on a new Win2k Advanced Server sp2. I was told all I had to do was join the Exchange server to the new domain and then switch the user accounts to the ones created in the active directory on the new DC. That didnt work, the Exchange service wouldn't even start, anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.......

That's a really tough one and I highly advise NOT doing that...
But since it's already done, have you tried reinstalling exchange? During the reinstall you should be able to change the domain to your new one. As long as all of the user accounts are EXACTLY the same as they were on the old domain, it could/should/might work.
Good luck!

i set the server back to the old domain and all is running well but I really need to get it running on the new domain. I'm leaning twoards building a new server and loading exchange 2k on it and just starting over, but would still like to know how to do it, I mean it must be possible....?

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I'll throw it out there anyway.
Try setting up a trust relationship between the two domains, with the old domain being the 'trusted' domain. Then set up your new exchange server on the new domain. Then use the move mailbox feature in exchange to move the mailboxes to the exchange server on your new domain.
Like I said, I don't know if this method works across domains, but I've done it on the same domain a couple times with no problems whatsoever.

The trust relationship didnt work. we deliver to .PST file and it says you don't have permission to log on. I'm gonna set em up with POP for the time being, and build a new exchange2k server and migrate next weekend. The only solution I found to make this one work involved raw mode, which is a bit over my head......

It seems to me that you could upgrade the existing box to 2K and use the AD Migration tool.
