Don't know why but I've seen the same thing lately with the SCSI model only. I did a security erase on my customer's tapes and the problem went away. Don't know if there was something wrong with the tape or the drive just wanted some attention

For some reason I've seen a lot of manufacturing defects in Seagate Travan drives. Pull the drive and look at the controller for signs of cold solder joint fractures and cuts in the conductors. Just a thought...

Actually it isnt the tape, or drive at all.
IT IS THE VIA DRIVERS.
IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK YOU NEED TO INSTALL THE NEW 4 IN 1 DRIVERS FROM VIA MFG GROUP.
Or the thing won't work for ****.
I found this out the hard way.
Install the new drivers, and than disable DMA mode, and it will work for you flawlessly.
-Thanks for noone's help lmao

Also ...one other thing I've found with these...If you or your customer has an early version of Win95 and has a certain Intel chipset(can't remember which at the moment)...you have to go download/install the latest bussmaster/INF updates.(www.bmdrivers.com has them) Earlier versions would not work. No mention of this in the documentation but the seagate Tech picked this up immediately so they are aware of the poblem...why no mention of it I'll never know.
