    Question FAT32 or NTFS?

I've been running WIN2K on NTFS for quite some time now, and a question popped into my head today. Does anybody know which of the two file systems (FAT32 and NTFS) is FASTER, or if there is any difference at all? This machine is largely for gaming and multimedia, so if there is something faster it might definitely be worth looking at. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

NTFS is much faster, fo pretty much every type of computing l've seen. FAT is like a toy

    I agree.
NTFS is a lot better and of course faster than FAT.

NTFS without a doubt. Wouldn't use anything less for an NT environment.

You will gaindisk space running NTFS vs FAT 32. A FAT File system uses far more disk space in formatting your drive. For more info try www.techrepublic.com register as user and browse the topics on NTFS.

NTFS is what I always use in NT/2000, unless I forsee a need in the future to move the drive into a WIN95/98 box, then I will use FAT32, although if you create a FAT32 partition with 2000, it doesn't seem to work in WIN95/98, so you have to make the FAT32 partition with a 98 bootdisk first!

one other thing to consider, fat 32 limits you to 32 GB partitions on w2k for some reason, (on setup it does allow you to make and install to a partition larger than 32 GB installs like this tend to be a little unstable, likly because W2K setup should not allow you to make a fat32 partition larger that 32GB) so if you have say a 40 GB HDD as a secondary HDD you would have to split it in to 2 partitions.

NTFS is alot faster and more secure.
but if you are running alot of games then I would run fat32.

If you have the option ALWAYS run ntfs. It is more stable and faster
