    Post AHAHAHAHAHA HP'S SUX

HP sux ***... Here is the story (this was yesterday). A customer of mine wanted to install a Voodoo3 into his HP Pavillion (newest model, forgot the #s). The only way to install the card is to disable the onboard video (intel 810x crap). BUT the bios did't give you the option to disable it lmao. SOOOOOOOOOOO I called 3DFX to see if they have any little tricks, and after waiting 45 minutes listening to crappy repeating elevator music, they said that you cant use any other video cards in that machine unless it's a v2 with the jumper cable for the back (what i needed to hear in 15 secs and waited to hear for 45 mins!). So.... I thought i would give HP a Call....
I called and got some dumbass bitch on the line. I told her the dilema and since it wa a 3rd party card she wouldnt help me unless i gave her my cc# and charged me for $25... Meanwhile this computer is still under warranty until 2001. So I asked her IT IS FIXABLE and she said yes... So i hung up on her, and scoured the Motherboard for jumpers/misc bios settings, anything.. Found nothing so i called HP back with a CC# and got a guy this time, He said that that MB you CANNOT DISABLE THE ON BOARD VIDEO...

What a bunch of jackasses. LMAO
I know Hp's sux and are propreitary but this is the lamest thing i've ever seen in my life.

Other than me telling my friend to stick his finger in the empty light bulb socket as i turn on the switch lmao..

Well More PROOF THAT HP SUXORS.
BTW it was an INTEL BOARD!!!!!!!!!!

    [disclaimer]
The following is by no means a suggestion on how to treat your computer, but it is true. Nevertheless, don't try this at home.
    [/disclaimer]

Older Compaqs (ie 440LX boards) had a similar on-board chip that could not be disabled. I believe it was an ATI Rage Pro 4mb. New ones might too, I'm not sure. Anyway, I once heard of a similar situation to the one you describe, where the user actually solved it.
    The solution:
    1. Find the chip labeled "ATI" on the motherboard.
    2. Using butt end of a screwdriver, lightly tap the chip until it cracks.
    3. You have now disabled the on-board video! Install the new card, and have fun.

No way to disable it in the bios... but breaking it is an easy thing to do...

Except im not doing it cause im the tech...
If he wants to do it... I'm not gonna tell him how, or help him... I'll wait till it comes back to me for repairs lmao.

I do indeed agree that Hp is a pile of dog****. But i have been able to get V3's to work in many different Hp's of varying model families, all of the with onboard video. I just disbaled the existing video card in device manager and it works. True they cant be disabled but they can be bypassed. Just another way the corporate machine gets the average "friend who knows computers" to call the help(HAHA) line @ $25 per minute.

So, if you put the video card in do you get video? Will the machine POST? I have seen a very few that will just not work with a 3rd party card installed.

but you will get a windows protection error

I talked to HP and 3DFX
both said that the card is not compatible with that new machine.,

Have you ever heard of artificial Lightning. Give it some. Then tell your customer to buy a nice 800 MHz Clone from you with a real video card in it.

Actually, it is possible to get this Voodoo to work. All you have to do is change the VPA jumper setting from pins 2&3 to 1&2. restart the system and load the drivers. Not too difficult.

BTW, the jumper will be located behind the cdrom drive as you are looking into the case. Slide the drive forward and voila!! How much scouring did you actually do anyway??????????????? I've walked several customers through this process over the phone let alone in done it myself and have yet to not be able to change the video card/adapter.

There is no jumper to disable the video...

I looked for it that was one of the first things i looked for.

It was in the bios... but there was no disable.

If it's an i810 board then it does have the jumper. I don't know what model your buddy has, but you'll usually have to move the cdrom drive forward to be able to get to it. kJumper is labeled vua/pda and will be set to pins 2&3. Wht wouldn't you be able to install the card and software, reboot and change the default video adapter to the card?
