    Question JOYSTICK NOT FOUND

my nephew is having a problem where the gameport says device functioning properly, but it will not detect the joystick. He says it was fine till he reinstalled win98 upgrade and\or directx. I thought maybe the problem had to do with his new SB live card, so put in his old sb16, same thing, so I know it is a windows problem, probably something in the registry. I tried deleting all refs to joystick in registry and redoing sb setup, but that didn't fix it. Even deleted enum in reg, and let win98 redect everything, still NG. Tried couple diff joysticks too... Anyone have a clue I hope ? Thanx

    Jeanne,

Try deleting the msjstick.drv, vjoyd.vxd from /windows/system and the joystick.inf from /windows/inf also see if there are joystick inf files in /windows/inf/other

    Good Luck,

    Charlie

Also check the registry again while in safemode. Check under Hkey_local_machine->system->currentcontrollset->services->class->media . remove everything in that key and do the same in device mangler for all devices under sound, video and game controllers. then reboot and see if it gets detected.

try calibrating the joy stick under the control panel. Alot of times the systems do'nt reconize the joy stick until it's calibrated. Hope this helps

Can you add Joy stick in Game Controller. I think that's Windows 98 design flaw. But try it. Let me know.

which joystick is it Jeanne, as some joysticks are wired up internally different than teh default ( Microsfot especially ).

If it a Saitek stick, pester Saitek to send you new drivers for it as they tend to be very cagey with Win98 and PCI sound cards. They particulaly do not like SB PCI64v cards for some reason. I have had similar probs reported by customers that when installed the latest drivers for the stick teh prob is solved
