Exclamation FIC 503+ ,AGP, Chronic hair loss

I could really use some good help on this one. I am working on a 503+ that had a pci video card in it. When I put the AGP card in the machine will boot into windows but the splash screen is on. I never see the desktop. The only way I know I am into windows is the hard drive quits loading. I can then hit the MS flag key and "U" "S" and enter and the machine will shut down. The board is the latest revision. I have flashed the bios. Tried all the new drivers from there site. Tried 3 different kinds of video cards. Rebuilt the registry. Blew out all the drivers and started from scratch. Nothing is working.

I am running win98 first addition. One observation I have made is I belive it is having issues with a pci bus driver but I have not been able to correct this problem.

    Any help would be appreciated

    check this:

    1. The first PCI slot must be free
    2. USB must be enabled in the Cmos
    3. You must install the AGP driver provided by FIC before installing the video drivers

    Good luck.

Well, I can't believe I forgot that. But, it did not matter it did not help. I deleted the enum key so I could reload the devices. I deleted the driver out of the system folder so it would reload Windows default drivers from the cab files. It got as far as the pci bus and the screen locked. the computer did not. It continued to load something. When it finally stopped I hit the "return" key thinking there might me a prompt behind the screen telling me to reboot. Well it did and the screen still hangs even though the computer continues to boot. I am now gonna reload windows to see if that helps. I know this machine had SE put on and taken off several times and I am thinking something is buggy.

If anyone has any other advise PLEASE help. If not then I would suggest investing in Rogaine stock. Thank you in advance.

If your AGP card need an IRQ, it would be useful to install the IRQ Holder provided by VIA (virq13.zip on via web site)

Do a clean install following the directions from Via below

Q: What is the procedure for installing Win98 on VIA chipset based systems?
A: There are four important steps to follow:
    1) Go into BIOS setup and enable USB
    2) Install Win98 on your system
    3) Download and install the VIA IrQ routing miniport driver from our driver page
    4) Download and install the VIA AGP driver from our driver page (for MVP3 & VP3 chipsets only)

Thanks for the help. I made a backup of teh customers c drive and deleted windows and did a fresh install. It works fine. I was trying to avoid this to save the guy few bucks. (tons of software to reinstall and reset all the network settings along with all the stuff he has attached to it) I had a feeling there was a windows issue. (win95 upgraded to win98 to 98se with se being removed reinstalled and removed again.) I knew the registry was trashed. It wouldn't be Windows if it was not.

    Thanks again.
