IE 5.5 - Option grayed out
When going on my company's Intranet page trying to open an online document, I get the pop-up giving the options to "Open this file from its current location" or "Save this file to disk". My problem is that the "Open this file from its current location" option is grayed out. PC is on NT with IE 5.5. I have another pc also with NT using IE 4 which has no problem. I verified security settings & advanced options but can't find anything related to this. Any help greatly appreciated!

Flabooble!
Haven't seen that before. Just a stab in the dark but did you check the security settings and change them to low? Also, reset all the advanced options to default.

By the way, the images I'm trying to open are in tif format & I know there are some issues with this but I'd like to know why it works with IE4 & not IE 5.

Intel Mod
It seems IE5.x needs a plug-in for TIFF viewing, it has no native support. The TIFF is an Adobe copyrighted format, and there was some stirring a while back about the use of copyrighted formats on the internet, so TIFF support may have had to be removed from IE5 while this was sorted out. Unfortunately, Netscape Plug-in support has also been removed from IE5.5 SP2, and a TIFF viewer Plug-in will likely need this.
This being so, as already suggested an upgrade to IE6 may be the solution, but if you do, keep this in the back of your mind:
