file and print sharing
when trying to install file and print sharing i get an error message
system policies do ont allow adding teh selected device
is there anyway to get around this

what OS are you running, maybe my mind is gone I did not see it?
If it is 2000 pro or server, do you have sufficient rights? Logged in as Local Administrator?
Local admin on a non domain linked machine is the way to get that printer in, if on domain, then you account will work if it is part of the Domain Admins group. I am not sure if a power user can hook up a printer?

I had exactly the same problem recently on a customers PC. It turned out to be an entry in the registry
Search the registry for the following key:
HKCU,Software\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies
You should find an entry in there stopping the file and print sharing - delete it (usual disclaimer: back-up the registry first!)

thanks for the help, i will have to try it tomorrow when i get to work. its the bosses machine so i guess i should do a reg back up. wouldnt that be a nice suprise, he comes back from vacation and his machine along with all the accounting stuff is gone.
