Turns out Walmart is selling systems with this o/s platform.
Anyone here already tried it out or plan out trying this os?
Just curious.

I might give it a go, just to see what it can do, but I think the novelty value may fall off pretty fast.

DO NOT BUY THIS. It is based on WINE and since it is. It runs the same as Red Hat with WINE with a fancy name. and costs you MONEY.

It costs money (very little of it) to get into the pre-release scheme, but I do not believe the final product will be 'sold'.
Anyway, its not like WINE is perfect, could do with some tweaking.
EDIT:
Anyway, these people have worked on putting a product together, what are you saying, that developers should just work for the love of it?
There needs to be money flowing for our industry to stay alive.

For those who have done the prelim reading on it, the concept looks good. I signed up (and yes, forked over the $99) and was looking forward to having the stability of Linux with the ease of use of Windows. Yes I said ease of use.
I did the "friendly install" of Sneak Preview 2 (SP2) on my Compaq 1270 laptop running Win98. The install was flawless and much easier than any Windows or Linux distro I had ever played with. I was so excited to have something other than Microsoft.
Excitement short-lived. The machine booted into KDE v.2. It had many of the same icons as my Win98, including Windows Media Player 7 and My Documents.
Not a single Windows program will run. I would have ben better of putting Corel Linux on my lappie ( still the only distro that I tell my friends about ). I have no sound in Lindows and have no GUI method of fixing the issue. There is nothing useful for a control panel. Yes I know that there are command line ways of fixing it, but that's not the point of paying for an OS. I can't walk my grandmother through recompiling a driver for an ESS onboard sound card. (I can't even do it), but I can install sound cards just fine in Win98.
If I click on a Win98 app, it acts like it wants to load (waiting icon is a mini version of the app's icon) and then it quits.
I have downloaded SPX and will give it a go in the next week or so, but I'm not going to hold my breath. You apparently can download the SPX pre-release off of other sites using Google.
Welcome to the big time LindowsOS, you're already being pirated!
Why bother with the A+?
Would you honestly feel comfortable handing your $1500 computer to someone who FAILED the A+ exam?

Read the whole site and you will find that the gold version will be $99 also and in the licence it says that if you own 2 computers you can put it on 2 if you own 500 you can put it on 500

It's an early os. I mean, Windows 3.1 was horrible, compared to Windows XP. I'm still really excited about this OS, but as it's being an OS, and is attempting to combine the benefits of two current OS's, and is attempting to do something Microsoft with all their money hasn't been able to do, you gotta give them some time. Yes it's still in BETA form. Beta, meaning not ready for release. Of course there's going to be some issues, and considering the fact that it's an os, I would expect nothing but major OS. Don't give up on this yet, but we gotta be patient. It'll take at least another year before we'll see this even ATTEMPT to rival Windows or Linux platforms.

I think the thing that bothers me is the $99 that YOU have to pay THEM to be, basically, a BETA tester. I'm not suggesting that they pay you, but paying them just doesn't make sense. Your becoming an extension of their R&D department, in effect and they want your money for this "privelege".
I like the idea of LindowsOS as long as it remains faithful to the open source community. I haven't really seen them innovate or invent anything yet. It's basically just a Linux distro with WINE. Why pay to BETA test that?

I agree on one thing for sure.
It will take any O/S at least a year to mature and grow in the market. We'll have a good idea where lindows is going within that time period.
It is a promising o/s with some bugs to still work out.
I'll hold off getting it for now as well.
