Help! Scsi not terminated!
I have to install an HP Supestore Dat8i to an Adaptec 29160. The only other scsi device is an IBM 9Gb LVD. HP has not a termination (or I was not able to terminate it!), and if I use the same LVD cable to connect HD (id1) and HP (id2), appears : "insufficient termination detected on the lvd/se connectors". With only HD message disappear. If I connect HP to Scsi-2 controller of the 29160, message is "insufficient termination detected on the se connectors".
I must mistake something. Could someone help me? Thanks!

Sradicator,
With an internal SCSI chain, you have 2 ways to terminate it:
- With an plug-in terminator plug at the end
of your data cable (find one to your
resaler)
OR
- With the terminator jumper enable on the
physicaly last device on the chain (cable),
sometime the device owne an "auto-
terminator" feature.
The addresses does'nt matter for now but usualy the system HD has the address 0.
You have, of course, to avoid ID conflict.
I understand that the HD was alone previously on the chain, so it's must have already the terminator enable! So your DAT unit must be the first one closer to the beginning of the chain.
Good luck,
Benoit

Thanks for suggestion, but I have an LVD cable with termination built in (hd is LVD and with his cable is correctly terminated!) But when I use DAT (I think DAT configuration is the problem) Scsi card says that there is insufficient termination (even if I connect it lonely to Scsi-2)

Resolved! I used UW cable with a termination at the end! LVD cable is not good for DAT, as I read from HP support. Thanks!

Sradicator,
Terminator at the end of the chain is a must to succeed.
Welcome to SCSI world!
Good luck!

Typically DAT drives are not differential. This would explain why everything works when you use standard UW cable. I'm not sure that you should combine regular and differential devices on the same cable anyway.
Good Luck!

dear digitek, I know that I must terminate last scsi device, but I thought to terminate it with an LVD cable (that, AS YOU KNOW, has built-in termination).
To Lord Kahn, all seems to work perfectly with UW cable. I tried some tests and all works fine. Thanks!
