"No Dial Tone"...But There Is One!
I have two modems installed, a U S Robotics and an HCF.
This morning the one I always use {US Robotics} worked fine but this afternoon, I continually get the message when trying to dial up that there is no dial tone. I have hooked a phone to the line and there is a dial tone. I ran diagnostics which shows that everything is fine. When I changed default modems to the HCF, It dials up fine.
I reinstalled the modem with no luck. do I need to purchase a replacement?
Thanks!
Jeff

You probably do need a new modem. I have seen this before and a new modem solved it.
You know it's not DUN because the other modem worked.
I know USR has a great reputation with modems, but in my experiance they don't hold up to the hype.
Good Luck

This is usually due to the dialing circuit getting fried by a surge.

Just before you go buying new gear, try unchecking the 'wait for dial tone before dialing' box in your DUN properties, see what happens.
Not to say that hardware might not be fried, but I dont trust Windoze DUN as far as I could throw it
