Post Mistaking symbols for HTML markup?

I was trying to make a post using the Less Than symbol ( < ), and it gave me a weird error that it was unable to post because there was a parenthesis in the HTML markup. Huh?

the <> are used for HTML code just like the [] are used for coding UBB.

Try <A href="http://www.pagetutor.com/pagetutor/makapage/lesson09.html">This page</a> maybe this will explain your problem.

Yes, I know that, but normally the UBB can handle a < symbol without any problems. For some reason, on that one post, it wouldn't. I was just wondering if there might have been a problem or if something had been changed.
