    Post Are you kidding me?!?

Listen! All you people whining and griping about paying for windrivers: I have seen people spend this much money for 10min of tech support. I charge $200+hr as a consultant, and alot of the time I fix issues by just bouncing in here and snagging what I need. I will gladly pay for access and so will many people like me. It is you fools who want everything for free that are still making $15hr working the help desk. Grow up and join the adults and pay for what you know darn good and well will help you to succeed. I pity you and your shallow minded ways.

Alright, where to begin. This is to all those whining at those who are whining about paying for Windrivers, and this is from the perspective of a Network Admin over a network of 1000 pcs, 3500 users, and 23 servers. I've been coming to this site almost since its creation. It was one of the best, no doubt. But here's reality, plain and simple... I have a personal HTML file that I use at work that contains all the links to places I need most. It took me about an two hours to make. Now, I'll be editing it so that one entry is moved off the top of one column (Windrivers.com) and the one under it is moved up (Driverguide.com I believe). Anyone saying "I charge $$$$ per hour for consulting and you shouldn't even complain about paying for this great service, blah blah blah", I say "GET REAL, SERIOUSLY". It takes no time at all to do a search for another FREE drivers site that WILL have what you need. Over the last year or so, I've been going to driverguide.com because of its original content. If I need an HP driver, I go to HP.com. Same with IBM or Compaq or almost anything. If I need a legacy driver or obscure nic driver, I go to driverguide. And about that 'time spent searching' vs. 'paid subscription' benefit crap, please. A 20 second search yielding a number of great, untainted driver sites will save your company an infinate recurring subscription fee if you have any common sense and any skills navigating the web. Newbies are destined to pay until they season a little, so more power to them.

No one feel bad for getting this site free all this time and don't let the wackos make you feel guilty for not wanting to pay. This site had banner ads making some $ and if the person(s) running it were so unhappy with it, then what stopped them from just quitting? Don't perceive this as ungratefulness. I was very appreciative of the people running this and I don't blame them for selling it (if that's what happened exactly). Its been great. But why pay when I can just rearrange my brain cells to type in a different site when I need those services again?

I read in another post somewhere "I wouldn't start paying for the news if they started charging". Dead on. This site will be bankrupt if the owners depend on it to turn a profit. Think about it: most people buying subscriptions will be 'newbies'. And after a few months, when they realize they're being ferried to other sites ("hmmm...ati video card...I wonder if ATI.COM will have what I need..."), subscriptions are cancelled. And so what about the services? If you have Microsoft problems or almost anything related to Microsoft, microsoft.com/technet. Problems with router? Go to the company's website. Most have great knowledge bases and FAQs. Want a good newsletter? I get four or five GREAT ones everyday from lockergnome.com. Want the latest pricewatch prices? ***GONG*** Yep, pricewatch.com. Tom's hardware articles? I won't even continue...

I'll keep it short this time.

If you pay for a subscription, you're stupid. You can get the SAME stuff at another site you've probably been to countless times before for free.

It'd be like paying for Yahoo! search when you can just go to Google. How can you even argue with that.

If I were a millionaire I wouldn't buy a subscription because of the mark it would leave on my dignity.

Call me what you will, (yes I am a subscriber to you I am stupid, so be it)I, like many, have been coming to this site for many, many years. I could never repay this site for all of the knowledge I have gotten from it. From the people in the forums to the links on the home page, have helped me (and many more people I am sure) more than they will ever realize. Like I said before I have been hear for years, since it was just a small server in Scott's bedroom. This place has a "homey" feal. I consider this my home, and when someone comes to my home (with one freaking post) and starts whinning about paying, I say go to the other free sites, your voice or presence isnt wanted here. I have busted my @$$ to get where I am today, and will continue to bust it for the rest of my life, so if I have to take 20 minutes out of one day to raise money to subscribe for a year, then fine. Scott has worked really hard to get this site where its at today, and I commend that. This site is unequaled to any other site I have seen. Yes, its sad that it had to fall to subcription, but hey, times are just as tuff, if you dont want to pay the subscription, then dont. But why come into the forums and cry about it? What is done is done, just because a few people are crying about it, isnt going to turn things around.

Maybe if you would grow up and read the other topics on this subject, you would see that we've been over this too many times.
