Case mod with large fan and neon
I just thought that I would post a couple of pics of my case. I just managed to finish it this past week. I had a case that was modded before but I just got tired of it so I ripped all of the parts out and started anew. It has a 4" fan in the side that I pulled out of an old fiber expansion module and I covered it with a 6" speaker grill. I used a dremel tool(and about 30 of those emery wheels!) to cut the window in the side. It is a totally unique shape that I had to make due to the fan. I have one piece of blue neon on the side for illumination inside the case.
For the front, I replaced the LEDs with Radio Shack blue ones(part # 276-311) and I took a roto-zip and cut the spiral shape in the plastic bezel. I had an old 12v purple neon shifter knob for a car that I disassembeled and put directly behind the case sticker. I bought the case sticker on eBay and I beleive I paid about $1.75 for it.
The whole case has a automotive quality finish. It fades from a very dark metallic purple/blue into black at the top. The paint was the most time consuming process in the entire project. I sanded, resanded, primered, wet sanded, base coated, painted, and clear-coated the sides, front and top over a period of three days. When I was done, I took out the buffer and hit it a couple of times with a high grade automotive polish.
I must appologize for the quality of the pics. I dropped my good camera in a pool in FL at Thanksgiving so I had to use the old standby. If you have ever wondered about the quality of those aiptek pen cams....wonder no longer!
I really enjoyed this project and might be interested in doing some more. If you would like some help or need some ideas just msg me and we can talk.
I must now go and(like Webhead )have a beer or six!
