    Question PCI/AGP jumper cables

A buddy of mine asked me to build him a computer that was not like the old everyday, boring thing that we all know and love. He wanted art. What I have come up with is a flat computer that he will hang on the wall. It will be wired to his stereo and also be his main DVD player.
All is going well, but when I built the prototype I did not like the way the AGP card and PCI cards stuck out. My solution was AGP/PCI jumper cables. I have never seen these or even know if they exist. I need to know if anyone has ever seen these; knows of a company that can make them; or has tips on making them.
    Thanks for the help.

you may want to look into the U2 case standard.. (rack mount) they usualy put the ram at 45degrees, also the have these funky elbow adapters for the PCI slots. AGP though, your on your own.

I think you may run into problems if you make the cables too long. IDE Cables have problems being over 36 inches, and ATA100 has problems over 18 inches. Especially for 3D Gaming, moving the cards farther away might increase the delay to the point that problems occur (I know that some of the riser CPU units that rais ethe chip up an inch are known to cause problems as the chip/MB was wired to work with a certain delay.)

You might look into an "All in One" motherboard that has everything on one board.

I've thought of making a wall hanging computer as well and stopped when I came to the same problem you are having.

If you find a solution I would really be interested in it.

I have actually done this myself before. I have extra AGP ports at home (Just the ports that are soldered on the board) and I took the individual wires from an 80 pin IDE ribbon, soldered to each connect on the agp port on the motherboard and then soldered the other side to the connects on the back of the new AGP port. I'll tell you, it was a bitch to do but was pretty cool when I was done. This was during my "routing-of-everything-to-places-it-shouldn't-go" stage with modding. I had a USB port in my mouse once... (Don't ask, it had not viable purpose but it was cool), I had PS/2 ports in a 5.25" drive bay and I had the floppy drive coming out the side of my computer. It was ghetto but I learned a lot of cool stuff. Along with this, I modeled a clear plexi box and had my video card in it. (This was back in the day that my Voodoo3 2000 was the latest and greatest) The box was on top of my computer and the AGP port was externally fitted in the top of my case. That was cool as hell. So needless to say, it can be done. If you want, PM me and I'll send you an AGP port if you pay shipping. (It'll be free other than that.)

    Cool

Ok, this is what I have come up with.
For version 1.0 I will be using the MSI K7N420 Pro
This works in two important issues:
    1) It looks good. This is not just a computer, but also art. It needs to look cool. The board material will look really good set against the deep purple with neon background.
2)The Integrated GeForceMX . I will not have to make the AGP/PCI jumpers for this version. It will be in the next version. I need to polish up my soldering skills and upgrade my gear to something better then the five dollar soldering iron I have now.
Tom's hardware marks for the board are not to bad and should do nicely.

With all the case mods you have done (the pics you have posted in the past are great); you ought to try your own version of the “car case”.

    Just a thought.. .

Thanks for the insight. However, I do try to be original, even if some of my past mods do not show this. I want to do different things as I really don't like it when people say, "Hey, you got that idea from (insert person here)" Still trying to figure out what I want my next big mod to be. Maybe I should try to put all connections on an infrared circuit (Wireless) and make my cpu into a train that will run on a track at the top of the walls around my room... that would kick @ss.

You will have to put a warning telling people not to touch the two train rails. They may land up with a new hairdo. hehe
