Making round cables

Has anyone just made these things?

yup, find a nice sharp razor blade.. now count in five wires and CAREFULLY out about a 1 cm slit in between, now you can gently pull them apart for the entire lenght. repeat for the next five etc...

i've never done this with ata100 cable though..

Once you finish splitting the wires, DON'T TAPE THEM! If you do, they won't flex very well and you will have a rounded, stiff as a board, cable!

I have found the best thing is a bit of split loom tubing. It dresses up the cable and lets the individual strands slide so it will flex. You can pick it up by the foot at most car audio shops or at a parts store(in a roll=more$). Hope this helps you out.

Thank you, forgot that part.. I taped them myself, but once in place. that way i can mold them around stuff and keep shape.

Yes, split loom tubing is the best to use for this. It will work with ata100 cables just fine as long as you have good hands. I did mine 1 wire at a time.

...twenty four, twenty four, YYYEEEESSS I have finally completed a round cable.

My only question before I give this cable a try have any of you had problems with data corruptions with the home made round cable?

Nope, no data problems. I have made my own ATA-100 cables too, but I cut in 5 wire bunches to make it faster. As for ordering the cables, why wait 2 or 3 days when doing a whole cable takes you 10 minutes. I used wire wrap from Rat Shack to wrap my cables as well.

You can also get lengths of "Heat shrink" tube. I know all you pyro's out there will try melting the heat shrink with a blow torch but, use caution with a lighter. There is a max shrinkage, you can find some that won't shrink so tight as to restrick movement.

You can use a hair dryer to but with this would have to cut the heat shrink and that usually doesn't work too well. Get some spiral wrap or what not.

I can't bring myself to pay money for something I can do myself. Otherwise it will be like $5 here, $5 there, etc. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't have to position the strands in any particular order to avoid data corruption. Thanks everyone for responding.
