Post to shim or not to shim, what is the diff?

when i build my machine here shortly, i would like to know if is hould get a shim or not.

I have put plenty of fans and heatsinks on CPUs and have only had a problem with the one i am planning on puting in my machine.

The Thermaltake 2 or 6 is what i will put in, but they are a bitch to get it, the spring part is very high tention and i don't want to bust the core.

    Any help would be great.

with the new AMD and P4 cpus, its better to shim the cpu. Doing this will decrease the chance of crushing the core, and having less crashes in windows.

The shims are so cheap why not get one. I got one casue it was only $8 and I didnt want to break my $180 ATHLON. So its a good idea to get one.

I agree, better to have the shim and not crush a core than to crush the core wishing you had bought a shim.
