    Post Samsung HDD RMA

I just had a Samsung 20 GB hard drive fail. So i filed an RMA request online, the next day i was greeted with an email from samsung approving my RMA and an RMA number. I mailed it off on a friday and recieved my new HDD on the following friday. I am very impressed with the ease and speed!! I've had HDDs out for more than a month for a replacement. Samsung definately is high in my book now! just though i would share

Samsung may have good RMA service but I've seen a lot of samsung hard drive failures. Also two replacement drives I got back from samsung didn't last too long. Back around 97 and 98 I built quite a few systems with the Samsung 24x and 32x Max CD-Rom drives. Within a year I had about a 40% failure rate that I knew about for those drives. But this was all a few years ago. I can't say I know for sure about the quality of the current products though.

    And then there was maxtor

This RMA thing is great but it would be better if buying a hard drive was less like playing russian roulette I've just had a maxtor 40gb (6 month old) stop working after a normal shut down. Their support dept was very helpful (but did not get my data back which is a big problem) and emailed me an RMA by return , Trouble is I want the data before I send the drive back....
