    Hello..am running win 98 ,
    FIC-va-503+ via apollo
    MVP3 ,1MB cache 124MHz .AT/ATX
    and a K6-2/350MHZ AMD ..
    128 MB SDRAM pc/100 Dimm .
    voodoo3/2000 with 16MB .
    6.4gig caviar Western degital HDD.
    and 128bit sound blaster .
    I was wondering If is it a Good ideas to add K6-2/500 Or K6-2/550MHZ to improve performance .or Forgot -it and Go with 900 Duron.
    PS :In order to install K6-2/550MHZ my FIC-va-503+ require flash bios and you know How dangerouse to flash ur bios..

    i would go with the duron myself. on pricewatch, the duron is a little more than the K6-2, but you'll twice the performance. you'll need a board but you should be able to use your old ram. you can get a decent on for about $100 or so on pricewatch.

    Flashing your BIOS isn't as dangerous as you may be thinking. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine. You can do a lot more damage swapping motherboards, cpu, memory, and all your cards. But, if you want some newer options (like AGP) that your board doesn't support - go for the full upgrade, but don't stop at 900. After a month, it will feel as slow as the 350 and you'll be looking at the 1.4 thinking "those sure are cheap..."

    The processor upgrade to a 550 would make a little difference, but going with a Duron and a cheap geoforce mx agp card would make a world of difference. I know you'll have to invest a few more bucks, but the performance difference will be unbelievable.

    Yes, I would also say go with a duron.
    They are dirt cheap right now

    Duron. The FIC VA-503+ is the board from hell, ask any tech (there are an awful lot of them on this site).
