Cooling????
You are all probably tired of hearing about this. But I finally gave up on the SBLive and PCI128 and bought a turtle beach Santa cruz. The AMD system seems to run much better now.
Info:850 T Bird
256 MB Kingston PC133
Abit KT7A-R
Voodoo 4500
Kingston KTE110-TX Nic in slot 5
Santa Cruz slot 6
IRQ 5 tio legacy ISA
USB enabled using a MS Internet Keyboard Pro and Intellimouse Optical
Using ATA 100 w/ WD300
3 reformats in 1 day
Win 98SE, Win ME, and Win XP(which I just got yesterday)
All three exhibit lock ups after long periods of inactivity.
Put it on the bench at work, ran fine running Word, Adobe Photoshop, and IE at the same time. But when left to sit locks up.
Wondering if it could be a heat problem. I hear these things are heat monsters. The FHS looks like an adequate one, but My father in law bought it, so I am not sure. I promise to stop posting on this system soon. I might throw it in front of a truck.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I doubt you could add to many fans, unless you overload the pwoersupply. Which brings my next question. What is your powersupply? Is is 300w or better? if not, that mmay be source of lockups. What type of cooling do you have?

Might want to remove the heat sink, and ensure a little thermal paste is on the cpu core...then reinstall it.

Problem resolved, just to let you guys know and thank you for the input. My father in law failed to tell me he tried to unlock the cpu and got solder on the board and processor contacts. Tried top start it up and it sparked. He replaced the cpu but it hasn't worked right since. Duh?? Never work on relatives PC's. Thanksd again

Solder to unlock a T-bird? Ouch. That's a lesson learned the hard way, I guess.
