AMD chapter 13?
Anyone here of AMD closing? I'm waitstaff, and I heard last night two customers(regulars at the place that I work) state that they sold their stock in AMD because AMD was in dept and would go under within 6 months. I'm not trying to start a rumor, I'm just trying to find out if anyone has any info. I hope that this isn't true, I love AMD. I just upgraded the cpu in my old computer from an AMD K6-2 500 to an AMD K6-2+ 475@566 and it runs great!

conflicting analyis reports have really volitized the chip market. amd is in very good shape, so don't sweat it. intel has also been affected by this, but has been noted above they have deeper pockets. the stock is down to ~$16.00 so i bought an xtra 100 shares to go with my other 250 shares. actually the amd outlook is excellent. it looks as though the expected back to school upturn is not happening. the windows xp plan for release in october is not garnering any excitement and the early predictions for christmas are static. welcome to the silicon valley, we may be here awhile before climbing! economics you got to love it.

I think it's just chatter from the stock market. Intel are dropping their prices this fall, so AMD will not be as competitive as before. AMD has always missed out on the big bucks not having a large control of the corprate market as Intel have. Hopefully this will change in the future, (especially if the Dual Athlon is as good as it looks....)

If AMD went under I might have to commit suicide.

I doubt very seriously that AMD is closing. They are stopping or have allready stipped production of making the K6 cpu. There check book is no where near as big as Intel but they are not closing shop.

Let's talk facts: AMD is a public company that trades on the stock market. check their financial statements here. Find their balance sheet and see how much debt they have. Their stock price has been dropping for the last few months and is near the 52-week low (but that doesn't necessarily mean much.)
If AMD really were going down, it would be front page news on every newspaper.

AMD is not going out of business, but they are quitting production of K6 chips and embedded 486 and 586 chips, next spring. Just read it, and it is a problem for companys that run embedded chips, but the athlon and duron will continue

Amd has weathered the tech stock storm better than most. Want to start a GOOD rumor? Gateway is going under.

The Duron is going to be replacing the older CPU's in the embedded chip market.

when designing the Athlon core, and selling K6x chips, AMD run under huge debt for a few years, they still have funding and investors, and now a kick *** product, they won't go under, worst case scenario, Intel will loan them money, becuase the second AMD goes under, *bam* anti-trust/monopoly trial for Intel. (think Microsoft 'loans' Apple 150 million a few years ago[bought non voting stock])

Don't forget about VIA/Cyrix in this equation & definatly don't rule them out as the C3 chip is going to be a contender next year.
