Post Morgan/KT7A

Although I know that the Athlon XP does not work in the KT7A'S prior to revision 1.3, I am wondering if anyone has got a Morgan working on one of these boards....

I want to upgrade this to a 1GHz Duron, but I don't really want to spend the cash on a new motherboard.....

However if I really have to, I will buy a new motherboard, or attempt to get an Athlon of about 1.2GHz...

According to Paul's Unoffical KT7 FAQ, only rev 1.3 will support the 'Morgan' core. I know how you feel as I am in the same boat with a rev 1.0 KT7A-RAID. Not to worry though, as I don't intend to buy another AMD cpu....

Hot off the presses is a bios for KT7A versions 1.0-1.2 that will support Athlon Xp.

Wow... harsh DW... Anyhow, I, too, have an Abit KT7a and want to upgrade to a new processor. I haven't done it myself, but a bench tech I know has successfully done this on the same board so I don't see any problems.

Darren. I read that in one of your other posts. We have you decided against AMD?

Sorry Brian, but the 64 Bios release for the rev 1.0/1.2 KT7A boards DOES NOT support the Athlon XP (Yes I also see the Viahardware.com front page news that says differently, but if you translate the page it says exactly the same as the English pages do). Read the Bios page for the Board HERE. Only rev 1.3 of the KT7A series will support the XP CPU's.

Someone posted about the XP working on the KT7A series on earlier revisions, what you wil find is, yes they will POST but the SSE instructions will not be enabled at all (and even with the 64 revision BIOS that was released a few days ago, it still shows the XP as it's true Mhz rating & as either a MP ot standard Athlon CPU (depending on speed you have), so you are going to be losing a little performance still. Also that any warranty on both the board & CPU will be voided the moment that the CPU is seated in the Socket & switched on.

I think he mentioned something about their business ethics, a la performance rating system.

(I don't get it either...since when is Intel ethical? )
