Buffer Underrun prob
Hi,
I'm using nero 5.5.2.4 under winMe and i get this prob:
after 10% of burning the "used read buffer" starts to decrease until zero before the burning process ends. After it reaches zero the "record buffer level" starts to decrease quickly and then the burning stops and fails with these messages: "buffer underrun", "invalid writestate" and "couldn't perform EndTrack".
tnx 4 ur help... <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0">

wot writer (does it support burn-proof writing), and wot board? also, how is it set up: is the the primary slave, secondary master or secondary slave? is there anythign else on the same channel?
Question of the Day: If it Micro$oft didn't exist, how much easier would our lives be?

This is why BURN-Proof is such a godsend! Buffer underruns simply mean that your system cannot pass information to your CD-burner fast enough. Your burner is writing all the information your system can push. When your burner runs out of information (your buffer empties out), your CD burner will automatically fail the disk.
I've found that defragging a machine can decrease the frequency of buffer underruns, but the best advice would be to turn down the burn speed (I used to have an 8X that would only burn well at 4X.. What a disappointment)...
You can spend weeks upon weeks trying to correct a system the does buffer underruns. All the CD-RW manufacturers will give you the runaround if you go to their sites for support.
Some other improvements may be to get the latest ASPI drivers from Nero's website www.ahead.de ... Disable Anti-virus or any system tools that may try to access your hard drive. Do not run any other applications while you're CD is burning..
Good Luck.. FYI, I just got rid of that 8X burner to get a wonderful 16X burner with BURN-Proof.. No more buffer underruns..

I had very same prob recently - simple solution is to burn at lower speed.
In fairness I was being a bit of a muppet - trying to burn at 12x when my CDROM only reads at 8x - doh.
Minimise burn speed and then gradually increase it till you find a decent level that works...

I work with alot of the HP Burners. Here's a couple of ideas. You mentioned that your using Nero 5.5. I this the software that came with the CDRW drive? Usually these drives come with MYHP CD software. If you have that s/w I would trying burning using it to test the drive. Is your PC networked or have a broadband internet access (cable or DSL), and there may be a program running in Windows that may cause this. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport...Tfile=lpg40110
