    Question AMD K2 400 Lockups W98

    I have 8 machines with AMD K2 400 CPU`s Installed..
    They vary in spec..
But 2 have Jetway 542B Rev MB
    PC-100-64MB
    6.4GB
    1 has v3-3000 the other a Virge3dx AGP
The 3rd machine has a GIGABYTE 586T MB
    and a V3-2000 AGP
My other 5 machines have no problems
I have just built these 3 in the last two weeks. And here is the problem.
When ever I try to run any of the following:-
    Mechwarriors 3
    King Pin
    Age of empires
    SIN
    Rainbow Six
or even Media Player V2 (MP V6.4 works)
The machine starts to load then locks requiring a reset.
    I have win98 first release
The 3 machines will run and Command and Conquer titles..
I have swapped around and replaced all components.. Even cpu swapped for nasty Cyrix333 and same fault..
Surley this is either MB or Cpu any Ideas..

    Or links to support.

Many sleepless nights trying to find answers

Make sure you have all of the latest and greatest drivers and BIOS updates - video driver and BIOS update, motherboard BIOS update, and motherboard AGP driver. Also check the websites of your motherboard and video card manufacturer as well as the makers of the games you are trying to run for any specific issues that would affect your systems. I ran into a similar problem with an ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP card and an Asus P5A-B motherboard. Everything worked fine in Win98, but when I tried playing 3D games I got a lot of solid lockups. Both ATI and Asus acknowledged the problems and said they were working on it. I ran out of patience and bought a Voodoo Banshee card and have not had any problems since.

I have all the latest drivers and bios upgrades installed inc agp etc..
I have talked with 3dfx interactive UK and they are at a loss as well..
I have got one machine running W95 at the moment.. and the media player does not lockup the machine anymore ...
Alas I have tried I 3dfx title and the machine hangs (not locking up tight)
I have used the amd W95 fix to get windows working...
I will keep you posted.. I had a feeling it was a batch of motherboards or CPU`s but
after swapping CPU`s with working machines that still work I am at a loss....
Media Player is a consistant sign that things arent right... I have loaded on version 6.4 and this works ok... But not solved anything else... I have noticed that all the titles that lockup use GDI32.dll (mean anything)..

    Thanks

What video card are you using? If it's a TNT based card, throw it through the window, it's no good with AMD.

    Right I am using a Voodoo3 - 3000 AGP
I installed W95 + AMD patch on one machine
Then installed DX7 and this machine is now working fine.... So far no problems..
Same configuration on another machine except
windows 98 and DX7 and this still locksup
all drivers and bios are new the same as the win95 machine...
I have not played any further with the machine with the gigabyte board...
    But will tommorow

I run 7 machines with RIVA TNT cards (Velocity 4400)and there running great with AMD K6-2 400, as long as you get the latest DX and motherboard AGP drivers they work fine. No lockups, just thought I post in case anyone was wondering.
