[RESOLVED] SD11 problems

Here is my set up:

FIC SD11 motherboard with 192mb memory.
Two DMA 66 hard drives (and IBM and Maxtor,
both are 13gb apiece)
One Pioneer CDrom and Iomega Zip drive.
One CDRW (A Yamaha SCSI 4416)
One Adaptec SCSI card
Once Floopy drive
A 32mb ATI Rage Fury video card (AGP)
A Soundblaster Live sound card (PCI)

All this in a A-Open full tower case
pumped by a 300w power supply.


Now the problem(s)!

I have the two DMA66 drives on their own
cable (a DMA 66 cable) and on the other
cable I have a Cdrom and Zip (a regular
IDE cable). Now with both cables insta-
lled, I get the blue screen of death on
boot up. The error is a VxD Exception
0E (or something like that). I can boot only if I unplug the cable with the CDrom and Zip drive.

The other problem is with the hard drives.
They are ungodly slow, yet they are 7200
speed drives. It takes 3 to 5 minutes
for an application to open or to copy
small files from one drive to the other.

I have updated all my BIOS, drivers, cables..
everything, yet its still slow and unbootable
with the IDE cable plugged it.


Does anyone have an idea whats wrong and how to fix? Im starting to think its a bad chip
set or mother board.

I have an AMD K6-2 400 and I have the same problem regarding hard drive speed. i noticed that FIC used a VIA Bus Master Controller and that unless you had the specific driver for it in your device manager in windows, files constantly became corrupt and strange things happened, this might apply to the B.S.O.D. and speed issues you have. They recommend using the Highpoint driver, you can download it here.

Although I did install the VIA Bus Master driver for my motherboard, I did not use this "performance" driver. They said on the FIC site that this driver should increase access speed, increasing overall performance. So as soon as I get home today I think i'll download it myself... Or get an Asus MB running an Intel chip...

Thanks for the info! I ended up sending
back the SD11 mother board after weeks of
trying this driver, then that driver and
scratching my head in disbelief.

I finally got a Micro Star K7 Pro mother
board and everything went together with
out a hitch. Access speed from both
drives are true DMA66, and Ive had no
problems what so ever. I think alot has
to with the MS-K7Pro motherboard having
the AMD Irongate chipset (both North and
South Gate)and not the Via.
