TEAC CD locks win98 SE on data transfer
I've got 2 systems, both using TEAC CD-532E-B CD rom drives.
One works fine, the other system can stream MPGs from a CD and play CD audio but locks win98 when transferring data. Every time I try to install from a CD, the CD light stays on, the system freezes and I have to hard reset the box.
The problem system is a TI5VGF motherboard (VIA chipset) with AMD K6-2 450, 128 RAM, SBLive, Netgear NIC, Diamond Viper V770 graphics, 17gig Maxtor HD (on seperate channel to CD, it won't work from the same channel).
I think I've got all the latest drivers for all components. Any ideas?
What does this button do?

Try going into device manager, cdrom, properties and if "DMA transfer" is checked, uncheck it. If not checked, check it. Reboot and see if it helps.

Also disable DMA in device manager for the CD-ROM drive.

Problem there is there's no checkbox for DMA on the problem system CD system properties. I know the ones you mean, but they just aren't there.
The motherboard drivers are supposed to allow me to configure DMA modes for all drives. The newest ones break more than they fix. The CD disappears and won't be detected, all HDs work in compatibility mode. I've gone back to the oldest drivers I have, at least I can use the PC as a CD player.....
