[RESOLVED] Athlon, Thunderbird or what??

I am considering upgrading to a new MB, case and CPU. I am considering either a ASUS or ABIT board, with an AMD chip. I am leaning toward the Thunderbird, but would like to know the pros and cons of the other AMD chips also, such as the Athlon or Duron. I am not going to buy anything in the GigaHz range... probably more like 850 or so, mainly due to budget restrictions.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

The ThunderBird is an Athlon. There are 3 flavours of Athlon available, The Athlon 'A' which is Slot A and has 512Kb of 1/2, 1/3 or 2/5 speed L2 Cache and runs at 100Mhz FSB (200DDR), then you have the Athlon 'B' which is the Thunderbird that is mainly on Socket A and has ondie 256Kb L2 cache running at full chip speed and 100Mhz FSB (200DDR), and then you have the New Athlon 'C' which is the same spec as the Athlon 'B' but will run at 133Mhz FSB (266DDR) as well as 100Mhz (200DDR). The Duron is Socket A and runs at 100Mhz FSb (200DDR) and has 64Kb of Ondie full speed L2 cache and 128Kb of L1 cache.

As the price of the Thunderbirds is low at the moment, I would say go for one of these.
