I know you all think I must be some kind of crazy fool for wanting such things but I am on a low budget and really cant afford to upgrade to a P4 or Athlon for about 9 months (I am saving to get married ). so please dont poke fun at me but tell me what you all know, thanks.</strong><hr></blockquote>

intel's 820 (the bad one) and 830 (the slow one) chipsets both used rambus. however, due to the fact that the rambus has such high latencies (takes a long time between when the chip asks for data and the ram starts sending it) it is slower than the 815 or BX chipsets and pc 133 ram.

VIa also made a DDR ram chipset for the pentium 3. it is comparable in speed to the intel 815.

the reason you don't get any faster with pentium 3 even tough you use faster ram is that the pentium 3 is limited by the front side bus. it's bus is 100 mhz or 133 mhz, versus 200 mhz or 266 mhz for the athlon and 400 mhz for the pentium 4. faster ram for the p4 and athlon makes sense because the chips are able to recive the data at that fast speed. however, the pentium 3's 133 mhz bottleneck means no matter how fast your ram is, the pentium 3 only gets it at 133 mhz.
