Thumbs down Vanishing CD Rom Drives

    Hello Guys/Girls,
I have just returned from a customer who has got another machine (apart from ours) through their insurance, the loopy thing is that the BIOS will find the CD Rom drive on initial boot up, lose it again by the summary page and has no idea in windows 98 SE at all. I tried reloading CD drives from set up disk, altering IDE cables, jumper settings[IMG but all to no luck. I am left with the conclusion that the CD ROM (LG in make) is knackered - any suggestions?http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/cwmsmilies/cwm3.gif[/IMG]

    dead page that one ......

if it initially finds it in the bios ,,,,but win can,t find it (assuming the cabling IS right) then the cd is goosed.

1: have u tried booting from a win98 cd (set bios to boot from cd rom)

2: have u tried the cd in another cd.

note my reply to darren/ruslan RE: board that the psu had "blown " up on ,,,,,even though the cd "stated" was trere in the bios .....it would not boot

    Hello Freddy the Fisherman,

Yep that's what I reckoned, couldn't load diddly squat from the CD drive, it was just so strange that the bios lost it about 2 seconds after saying that it had found it, all the CDs tried in another drive worked, customer didn't want me to remove the CD drive out of our made machine into the other (she was "just so happy that one works!!"). And of course no spare one in the car.
