Post Scanner port oddity?

Computer:
Dell Precision 340
OS: Win2K

Trying to get a Canon 1250 scanner setup on the above computer. I plugged into the back usb ports and no luck. Tried the front ports and works as advertised. Then tested all usb ports with a usb mouse. All ports ops check good.

End user wants (demands) that the scanner be hooked up to the back ports because it looks "tacky" with a cable coming out the front.

I'm using the latest drivers for the computer as well as the scanner.

Thanks in advance.

Try upgrading the USB drivers. If that dosn't work, try removing/reinstalling the drivers. Also, try removing the software and then plugging the USB to the back and then reinstalling the software. Win2k and WinXp are very picky about scanners, and I definatly know the trouble you're going through. Good luck.

Go here for downloads for your scanner . You will notice that there is a Scanner Delete Driver Application that will remove the current drivers already installed.
Also, notice the links there for FAQ's, User's Guides, etc.
Let us know how it ends up...Good Luck!

Question

What do you mean '....back usb' & '... front usb', presummably the back ones are your m/b ports but the front?

USB ports do come in a number of flavours, 1.0,1.1, 1.2 & 2. Various devices require various ports even though they all fit in the same hole!

My guess is that the mysterious 'front' ports are a later spec than those on your m/b. You probably can't upgrade these 'back' ports but if you insist on connecting from the rear (what kind of advice is this?!) then buy a PCI card to do the job.

BTW checking usb ports with a mouse will generally tell you the system is ok with usb 1.0 nothin' else...
